How to Increase Your Binance VIP Level: 30-Day Trading Volume Thresholds

2026-04-22 · 11 min read

Upgrading your VIP level is the most direct way to reduce trading fees. This guide covers the thresholds from VIP 0 to VIP 9 and strategies for cost-effective upgrades.

Your VIP level on Binance directly determines your trading fees. You can check your current status on the Binance website or through the Binance official app (see the iOS installation tutorial for setup). This guide explains the path to leveling up.

VIP Levels Overview

Binance features 10 VIP levels (VIP 0 to VIP 9). Your level is determined based on two primary criteria:

  1. 30-Day Spot Trading Volume (calculated in USD).
  2. BNB Holding Amount.

Meeting either requirement will trigger an upgrade, though most traders qualify via trading volume.

VIP Thresholds and Fees (Reference Table)

Level 30-Day Trading Volume BNB Holding Spot Maker Spot Taker
VIP 0 0 0 0.1% 0.1%
VIP 1 1,000,000 USD 25 BNB 0.09% 0.1%
VIP 2 5,000,000 USD 100 BNB 0.08% 0.1%
VIP 3 20,000,000 USD 250 BNB 0.042% 0.06%
VIP 4 100,000,000 USD 500 BNB 0.042% 0.054%
VIP 5 150,000,000 USD 1,000 BNB 0.036% 0.048%
VIP 6 400,000,000 USD 2,000 BNB 0.03% 0.042%
VIP 7 800,000,000 USD 4,000 BNB 0.024% 0.036%
VIP 8 2,000,000,000 USD 5,500 BNB 0.018% 0.03%
VIP 9 4,000,000,000 USD 11,000 BNB 0.012% 0.024%

The Upgrade Process

Automatic Calculation

Binance recalculates your previous 30-day trading volume daily at 0:00 UTC. Upgrades or downgrades happen automatically; no manual application is required.

Checking Your Progress

Go to Account → VIP Level to view your current status and see exactly how much volume or BNB you need to reach the next tier.

How Trading Volume is Calculated

Binance calculates the total of "filled" orders across Spot and Futures, with specific weightings:

  • Spot: 100% contribution.
  • USDT-Margined Futures: 30%–50% (variable).
  • Coin-Margined Futures: 30%–50% (variable).
  • Margin/Options: 100% contribution.

Essentially, 10,000 USDT in Spot trades counts as 10,000 towards your VIP volume, while 10,000 USDT in Futures may only count as 3,000–5,000.

BNB Holding Threshold

The BNB requirement is based on your daily average holding over 30 days, not a single snapshot.

For example, if you hold 25 BNB for only 3 days and then withdraw it, your 30-day average is only (25 × 3) / 30 = 2.5 BNB, which would not qualify you for VIP 1.

Strategies for Regular Users

Path 1: Volume "Farming"

Some traders churn volume to reach higher tiers. Caution: Fees paid while farming volume can often exceed the amount saved by the upgrade, and excessive trading carries market risk.

Path 2: BNB Accumulation

Simply holding 25 BNB in your account for 30 days is the most passive way to reach VIP 1. While this exposes you to BNB price volatility, the assets remain yours.

Path 3: API/Quantitative Trading

Using an API to run market-making or arbitrage strategies naturally generates high volume. This is best suited for users with technical expertise.

Recommendations for Retail Traders

Monthly Volume Recommendation
< 10,000 USD VIP 0 + Enable BNB fee deduction
10k - 100k USD VIP 0/1 + BNB deduction
100k - 500k USD VIP 1 + Hold 25 BNB
> 500,000 USD VIP 2 and above

Do not change your trading rhythm solely to chase a VIP level. VIP status should be a result of your trading, not the primary goal.

Downgrade Mechanism

Downgrades are also assessed daily. If your 30-day volume falls below the threshold for your current level, you will be moved down by one tier. You will not drop multiple levels in a single day.

VIP and Sub-Accounts

The VIP level of the master account covers all sub-accounts. Trading volume from sub-accounts also contributes to the master account's total. This is a core mechanism for large funds to manage multiple strategies while maintaining high VIP status.

FAQ

Q: If I meet both the BNB and Volume requirements, which one counts? A: You only need to meet one. The system will always calculate your level based on whichever criteria places you in the highest possible tier.

Q: I just reached the volume requirement. When will my fees drop? A: Upgrades typically take effect within the next daily cycle. Subsequent trades will use the new fee schedule immediately after the system update.

Q: Do I need to "lock" my BNB? A: No. BNB held in your Spot account or even in certain "Earn" products counts toward the daily average.

Q: Can I "buy" a VIP upgrade? A: No. Any service claiming to "sell" Binance VIP status is a scam.

VIP levels are designed for high-volume traders. For most users, enabling the BNB fee deduction and holding 25 BNB for VIP 1 provides the best value for money.
