How to Open a Binance Sub-Account: Limits and Management Guide
Sub-accounts help isolate strategies and risks. This article teaches you how to create, transfer, and manage permissions.
Sub-accounts are standard for large-capital and multi-strategy users on Binance. To begin, log in to the Binance Official Website and use the Binance Official App (for iOS, see the iOS Installation Tutorial).
Uses for Sub-Accounts
| Use Case | Benefit |
|---|---|
| Strategy Isolation | A failure in one strategy doesn't affect the others. |
| Team Permissions | Grant different access levels to employees or partners. |
| Position Independence | Each account has its own independent liquidation price. |
| Tax / Accounting | Separate reports for different accounts. |
| API Isolation | An API key issue only affects one specific sub-account. |
Creating a Sub-Account
1. Access the Page
Go to Profile → Sub-Account on the main account. Note: Access may depend on your VIP level; VIP 0 users might not see this option.
2. Enter Email
Use a unique email address for the sub-account (it cannot conflict with the master account or other existing users).
3. Set Password
Create a unique password for the sub-account.
4. KYC Inheritance
Sub-accounts share the KYC verification of the master account; no additional identity verification is required.
5. Completion
The sub-account is created and ready for use immediately.
Sub-Account Limits
| VIP Level | Sub-Account Limit |
|---|---|
| VIP 0–2 | 5–10 |
| VIP 3+ | 50–200 |
| Institutional | 500+ |
Fund Management
Transferring from Master to Sub-Account
Go to the Sub-Account Management page → Transfer → Select target sub-account → Select asset and amount → Complete. Transfers are instant.
Transferring from Sub to Master Account
Sub-accounts cannot initiate transfers to the master account. The master account must "Withdraw" the funds from the sub-account.
Transferring Between Sub-Accounts
This must be done via the master account as a two-step process.
Permission Management
You can configure the following for each sub-account:
- Enable/Disable Spot Trading
- Enable/Disable Futures Trading
- Enable/Disable Margin Trading
- Enable/Disable Withdrawals
- Enable/Disable Lending
- API Creation Permissions
Most common setup: Disable withdrawals + Enable Futures.
KYC and VIP Level
Sub-accounts inherit the KYC and VIP level of the master account. Trading fees for all sub-accounts are calculated based on the master account's VIP status.
Limitations of Sub-Accounts
- Cannot withdraw funds independently (unless specifically enabled, and even then it follows the master KYC).
- Limited or no access to independent P2P/C2C trading in some scenarios.
- VIP status is strictly tied to the master account.
Strategy Isolation Example
Master Account: 1,000,000 USDT.
| Sub-Account | Strategy | Allocation |
|---|---|---|
| Sub 1 | Long-term BTC/ETH holding | 30% |
| Sub 2 | Spot Grid Trading | 20% |
| Sub 3 | Futures Strategy A | 20% |
| Sub 4 | Futures Strategy B | 15% |
| Sub 5 | Funding Rate Arbitrage | 15% |
Each sub-account has its own PnL (Profit and Loss) and independent liquidation boundaries.
Team Permissions
If you are an institution or a studio:
- Sub 1: Trader (Read-only)
- Sub 2: Trader (Order execution)
- Sub 3: Risk Control (Read-only)
- Sub 4: Finance (Transfer permissions)
Each sub-account can have its own independent login and 2FA.
Viewing Total Assets
The master account's Sub-Account Management page shows the combined assets of all sub-accounts. You can also see this in Assets → Overview → Include Sub-Accounts. APIs can also fetch balances for all sub-accounts.
Safety and Security
- Independent 2FA: Bind a unique Authenticator to each sub-account so a breach in one doesn't compromise others.
- Email Isolation: Use different emails to reduce the risk of linked attacks.
- API Isolation: Keep API keys separate for each sub-account.
- Disable Withdrawals: Keep sub-account withdrawal permissions off unless absolutely necessary.
Sub-Accounts and Copy Trading
You can use sub-accounts to follow different lead traders:
- Sub 1: Follow Lead Trader A.
- Sub 2: Follow Lead Trader B. This allows you to clearly see the performance of each lead trader in their respective PnL.
FAQ

Sub-accounts act as a "Risk Firewall" for large capital. If your trading volume exceeds 50,000 USDT, you should consider using them.
